Mold Level Systems:
Application solutions for mold level measurements. Systems use non-contact technology generally keeping components internal to the mold housing inside the water cavity. This design, enables mold level measurements on slab, billet, bloom and jumbo style casters well adapted to conditions of extreme high temperature, corrosion, and mechanical shock. Often the measurement is not compromised by mold powder changes through our advanced detector and processing capabilities.
The system consists of a low energy gamma ray emitting source, generally less than 900 micro curies, detector and microprocessor. Mounting is often internal to the mold housing and can be quickly removed from the sealed wells inside the water jacket. The source and detector are mounted to opposing sides of the mold allowing the molten steel to fill between the two components. As the steel fills the mold, the gamma energy can not penetrate so the signal reaching the detector is reduced. This signal is correlated to a level measurement, displayed in selectable units of measure, and outputted at the microprocessor.
